Never be thirsty again..

Never be thirsty again?….…. By LaKisha M. Johnson

Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

Have you ever been really thirsty, how about thirsty and hungry? I mean so thirsty, you thought your throat was going to close up. My grandmother had this rule growing up, once you went outside, you stayed outside until she called you. And, In the south, during the summer that made for some hot days, really hot days. And unfortunately, we didn’t have a water hose outside, to drink out of it. You either made a decision to stay in the house and be bored, or to go outside and risk dying of thirst.

I remember one fourth of July we were all locked out popping our fire-works, but fortunately there was an ice chest outside, for us to get drinks. I remember being so excited, saying I can play all day, and not get thirsty. As hot as it was, I drank my first soda, in just a few minutes. It felt great going down, but I still felt thirsty. I waited awhile, because we had no adult supervision on the outside and got another one. I was still thirsty. It wasn’t until; my uncle walked up, and saw that we were drinking all of the sodas. He said, “You guys need some water, or you are going to keep being thirsty.” Soda’s contain sodium and other things, that aren’t going to quench your thirst, that’s why you can’t stop being thirsty.” We all sat there dumbfounded, we assumed that because It was a soda, and it felt good going down that we wouldn’t be thirsty. We thought the coldness of the soda, was quenching our thirst.

Jesus told the woman at the well (John 4:14), “IF you drink of this water, you will never be thirsty, again”. The woman, after a while, understood this metaphor. The same as for us, if we were hunger and thirst after righteousness, we will get our fill. Nothing can substitute our hunger and thirst for God, and I mean nothing, I tried it. I tried to fill it with more success, more stuff, more people and I was still missing something. I tried to compromise truth, for half-truths to only realize that it wouldn’t satisfy what I was looking for, I need to be filled with something greater than myself, I needed to filled with the living water, and nothing else.

Prayer: Father my soul pants after you, like the dear after the water, please fill me up. In Jesus Name. Amen
