Mother May I

Dear Friends,

I Corinthians 2:14-16 (TPT) 14 Someone living on an entirely human level rejects the revelations of God’s Spirit, for they make no sense to him. He can’t understand the revelations of the Spirit because they are only discovered by the illumination of the Spirit. 15 Those who live in the Spirit are able to carefully evaluate all things, and they are subject to the scrutiny of no one but God. 16 For Who has ever intimately known the mind of the Lord Yahweh well enough to become his counselor? Christ has, and we possess Christ’s perceptions.

Growing up I played a game called, “Mother May I?” Several of the neighborhood children would line up, after we did “Engine, Engine number nine” to decide who would be the “Mother”…lol! The “Mother” in the game would call out task to one of the children lined up, but before he or she could complete the task, they would have to say “Mother, May I?” Then, you would wait for the “Mother” to say, “Yes, you may!” You would follow the task from the starting line, trying to make it to the finish line, where the “Mother” was calling out the task. If by chance the person would try to complete this task before asking “Mother, May I” they would have to go back to the starting line. Going back to the starting line was never hard if you were just beginning, and forgot to ask for permission. However, if you were close to the finish line, and forgot to ask for permission it was disheartening to go all the way back to the beginning.

Well, at 45 years old, I am growing to understand that many of the places in my life were based entirely on my own revelation, and not the Spirit of God that abides in me. Honestly, I didn’t always understand the importance of yielding to the Spirit. I thought the sum total of it was shouting, falling out, and running around the church. So, when life would call out to me, I would make the majority of my moves according to flesh and blood (I, became the Mother May I, in my own life). Boy, could I write a book on all the ups and downs that doing it on my own has brought to pass. Now, that I am understanding who I am in Christ, and continually growing in our relationship. My Spirit man has become more dominant, than flesh. My perception (the eyes of my understanding) has started to change.

Much like the childhood game “Mother, May I?”, it was past time for me to put away childish things. It was, and still is imperative that I begin to ask the Holy Spirit for insight…“Holy Spirit, May I’? Trusting that God’s word made me a promise that the Spirit of God would never speak on his own self, but would always tell only what he has heard from the Father.

John 16:13 (TPT) “ But when the truth-giving Spirit comes, he will unveil the reality of every truth within you. He won’t speak his own message, but only what he hears from the Father, and he will reveal prophetically to you what is to come.”

So, there were and are places in my life that I have had to start over, because I was headed to a finish line, built on me, myself, and my, way of doing things. I cannot lie to you… starting over as a servant, woman, wife, mother, sister, and friend is not a place of comfort, but I can say that it has been comforting!!! Knowing that I’m starting over in Christ, who is both the Beginning and End (see Rev. 22:13)! Knowing that I’m surrendering to an Unfailing God (see Joshua 21:45)! Obtaining His truth in the way to go, and not having to worry about being misled (see John 14:6) . So, I humbly go back to the starting line, so that I may finish well in Him (see 2 Tim 4:7) .

May I, encourage you to do the same? That, no matter how close you are to the finish line; If you know that you haven’t been asking the “Holy Spirit” for directions, then make a choice to start again with His lead? WAITING, on Him to say, “Yes, You May!”, and being okay if the answer is, “NO, May Not!” Declare it with me.. “I am not too proud to start over God’s way!!!”

Ecclesiastes 7:8, KJV “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof; and the patient in sprit is better than proud in spirit.”

Prayer: We thank you God the Father, thank you God the Son, and thank you God the Holy Spirit. We give you praise for being Creator of all creation. Lord, we that you that you have given us the promise in your word (Acts 3:19) that if we would repent and turn to You, that our sins would be wiped away and that the times of refreshing would come upon us. Lord, we repent for doing things without your permission. We thank you for the Helper (Holy Spirit) that you have given to us, and repent for every false start that we are made without you. Holy Spirit from this day forward, we will not consult with flesh and blood(Galatians 1:16), but with you who will reveal to us our future (John 16:13), and will bring us to your purposed (Jeremiah 29:11) end for our lives. . We love and praise you! Amen.

Holy Spirit, May I?
