A Clean Cut.

A Clean Cut by LaKisha M. Johnson

Ephesians 6: 17, “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”.

One time when I was a little girl my grandfather sent me across the field to go get a sling blade from our neighbor, he had specific instructions for me as I walking. He said to me, “Do not swing it when you get it, walk very slowly with it, and absolutely do not swing it.” I know I heard him clearly, but as soon as I got this tool in my hand and started walking, curiosity got the best of me. As I was walking across, the field, I saw some high grass, and thought I would try it out a little bit, I swung it a little bit, I remember it hit my shin. I kept on walking and got to the porch. As I was about to hand the sling blade to grandfather I noticed I had a gash on the bottom of my leg, my grandfather said, “LaKisha, did you swing that sling blade?” I lied quickly, “No sir, I didn’t,” But it was so evident in the clean cut that was on my leg. The amazing thing was the cut was so clean, so quick, that I didn’t hurt nor did I ever bleed. I wasn’t even skilled in using it.

The Lord showed, me we are to be skillful with the Word of God. When we are not as effective with the Word, it’s because we don’t know how to use our swords. Remembering, we aren’t wrestling against flesh and blood, but against principalities (Ephesians 6:12), the goal is to cut at the spirit and not the person. . We have to learn how to cut, quickly and concisely (2 Timothy 2:15) so that we don’t do more harm than good, making sure that we are careful with the person that we are dealing with. Ephesians 4:19 and Psalms 141:3 are great examples of how we should use our mouths, and use the Word. Let’s masterfully learn to use the Word of God, so that we are effective and not infecting the people that are in our lives. Our goals should be to become master swordsmen.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please show us how to skillfully use the Word of God. Show us how to be careful with the people you have entrusted us to, so that we operate selflessly In Jesus Name. Amen
