Ephesians 6: 17, “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”.

I am almost sure when God came to give Joshua the strategy for seizing Jericho, that Joshua had thought God was tripping. I am pretty sure, he probably wanted to say, “Lord, are you ok? You want us to walk around the wall and do what, be quiet?” It probably started at the moment when the Lord said to Joshua, “See I have delivered Jericho in your hands.” At the very moment He spoke it, it didn’t look like a delivery. As a matter of fact the Israelites had it on lock down, no one could go in, and no one could go out (Joshua 6:1-17). The Lord had a series of promises for His people, and His promises always yield a yes and amen, as they do for you.

In our present world, we are in constant war with our flesh and with the principalities, that work on our very last nerves. To guard ourselves in the Word is essential to our daily living. The sword of the spirit is our best offense as well as our best defense. A skillful soldier knows how to use the Word. The other day, I was in a conversation with my Godmother, and she reminded me that the Holy Spirit doesn’t need my help. I began to meditate on this, and the Holy Spirit, began to show me how sometimes it’s best to not say anything, that the Word is still working, even when we are quiet.

Deuteronomy 31:8, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Sometimes, as with Joshua, we don’t need to say a word, we just need to let the Word (the sword) go before us and work on our behalf. Sometimes it’s just best to, as my grandmother used to say, “not say a mumbling word.” Isaiah 59:19, “So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” The Lord will raise a standard with the Word, you really don’t have to do anything. He is working on your behalf. Remember there is strength in your silence, It says you trust God above yourself.

Prayer: Holy Spirit go before us, and teach us to put a guard over our mouth and allow the Word to work for us. Father, we trust you even when we don’t understand. In Jesus Name. Amen
