Because I said so...
Dear Friend,
I was such an inquisitive little girl growing up. My mom would tell me to do something and I always wanted to know why. Often my mom would entertain my questions, but occasionally. She would just say to me, "Because I said so, LaKisha". That was never a good enough answer for me, as a matter of fact in my ears I heard, "Try it out and see if it works for you." I remember one time I wanted to go somewhere on my moped. My mom gave me a perimeter of how far I go. This particular day i decided to venture outside what she had told me. I thought she didn't want to have fun.
I made the decision to ride my moped to my friends house. I was so excited to get over there. Once I got there, one of my friends asked me if they could ride my moped, I said yes (which I was also told to not allow anyone to ride the moped). What happened next changed my perspective about my mom and her offering me restraints without a lot of explanation. My friend wrecked my moped. This meant I had to walk it all the way back home and explain the situation to my mom. She wasn't happy at all.
Because I said so meant; "Because I love you, because it isn't safe, because I need to protect you from dangers that you don't understand, because I need you to learn to obey me without questioning my authority." Right now I am reading in the book of Judges and the Israelite's are at a real intense moment with God. “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 9 I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians. And I delivered you from the hand of all your oppressors; I drove them out before you and gave you their land. 10 I said to you, ‘I am the Lord your God; do not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live.’ But you have not listened to me.” (See Judges 6:8) God was simply saying, the trouble you are in because "My say wasn't good enough." I understand more and more how important God's instruction's are, regardless if they come with enough explanation or not. He knows exactly what He is doing, I learned later on that my mother did as well.
Changing My Position,
LMJ
