Distracted

Dear Friend,

When I was growing up the worst distraction while driving was probably eating or changing the radio station. But now...the list is endless!!! You can basically do everything with just the touch of a button or a simple voice command. Although I try to stay focused as much as possible, my children have a way of demanding my attention in a completely different way. My daughter Brook (who is 9) saw something IMPORTANT as we were headed down the road. She cried out, “Mom look at this!” Usually I’m quick to look back to satisfy her need for my involvement. But this particular time I simply stayed focused and asked her to describe the object to me. I went on to tell her I cannot drive forward while looking at something out the window behind me. Driving distracted is dangerous (possibly deadly) for all of us!

Focus is essential in how we move forward in our purpose! Philippians 3:13-15 reminds us that we should be “forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, and press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us to in Christ Jesus.

All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things...” Focus takes discipline and maturity. If we choose to walk in unconstrained we will eventual decimate our purpose and the lives of those we are to influence!

Today be alert and aware of the distractions that are demanding your attention. Stay focused and disciplined. And as we drive down this road called Life, don’t drive while distracted!

Looking out the windshield,
Jess
