The Checklist...

August 16, 2018

Dear Friend,

I’m task oriented. I like checking things off my list. So much so, that when my list is almost complete I add to it, simply so I can continue to cross things off. (No judgment zone right?) It gives me a sense of accomplishment and allows me to tangibly see progress. And if I’m being honest, I simply like to be rewarded for completing a task.

Currently, I am in a season of transformation and waiting in my marriage. A place, as a perfectionist and type A person, I never thought I would be. When this season began I had a choice and I chose to stand and fight for my marriage. At first I thought that if I completed certain steps or prayers or seminars and said the right things (checking off the list) this would lead to restoration. Months and months went by, and before I knew it, an entire year and still no restoration. There was a point when I pleaded with God, similar to the psalmist, “How long oh Lord will you hide Your face?” I expressed to God that I couldn’t wait any longer. I needed to be loved as a wife. I complained about how unfair the situation seemed.

During this tantrum He led me to Matthew 18 when Jesus is asked how many times should a man forgive his brother. Jesus’ response was, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Essentially saying without end. Far more than you would anticipate.) As I read the passage I heard God’s still, quiet, voice ask me, “is there a limit to your waiting? Is there an extent to which your love ends? Have I not called you to love as I have loved?” He then reminded me of his love for Judas. You read that correctly friends, his LOVE for Judas. Knowing Judas would commit the ultimate betrayal Jesus shared meals with Judas, traveled with him, laughed with him, prayed with him, and even allowed him to share in His innermost thoughts. Jesus loved Judas knowing he would receive absolutely nothing in return. To love like Christ is to love without any limits.    That my friends is reckless love.

As you love today be reminded that Jesus left the 99 to save 1. Will you choose to be that reckless? Do you dare to be unconventional and love as Christ loves you? Go be love today. Go be limitless.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.”

John 15:13

Tearing up the list,
