No Coincidences...

December 31, 2018

Good Morning Ladies (and few gents),

Today’s devotion included below “God is not in the Coincidence Business” is a reminder from GiG Sharon that, “Many times when something seemingly bad happens in our lives, we need to remember that God is the director of the drama.” Yup, we’re the supporting cast and not the star so stay in our lane.

It’s Monday and time to share the 16th Catechism truth.

“4 Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.”

1 John 3:4 NLT

Question 7: What is sin? (1 John 3:4)

Answer: “Sin is rejecting or ignoring God in the world he created, rebelling against him by living without reference to him, not being or doing what he requires in his law—resulting in our death and the disintegration of all creation.”

GiG, sin is lawlessness and everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness.

Oswald Chambers (July 24, 1874-November 15, 1917), an early twentieth-century Scottish Baptist and Holiness Movement evangelist and teacher, best known for the devotional My Utmost for His Highest  wrote, “Sin is a fundamental relationship; it is not wrong doing, it is wrong being, deliberate and emphatic independence of God.”

Here’s some food for thought that Chambers writings left me with that is worth sharing—the first thing Jesus Christ faced in men was the heredity of sin, and it is because we have ignored this in our presentation of the Gospel that the message of the Gospel has lost its sting and its blasting power. OUCH or Amen!

GiG, the simple truth is this—sin is rebellion against God’s law. It’s not doing what he requires of us, not living as he has called us to live, resulting in us never fully being who God created us to be. And when we don’t live as if God is who he is, we violate his law and all the good, loving, protecting guidelines that he’s provided to us for how to best and most fully live—end result leads to death and disintegration.

Paul writes in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”Jesus died for our sins so we could be made alive. He experienced death and disintegration. He paid the penalty for our sin, so that we would not have to.

May we be encouraged to see sin as the poison it is.

God’s Got It…so seek HIM—It is not information about Jesus that will deliver us. It is Jesus who will deliver us.

Have a “Mindful” Monday, December 31, 2018—let God’s law, rather than the spirit of lawlessness, shape our minds and our lives today, tomorrow, and forevermore.
