Worried for What?

April 17, 2019

Dear Friends,

“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?...Don’t worry about such things…your Father already knows your needs.  Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.” Luke 12:25-31 NIV

Worry is defined as “tormenting oneself with disturbing thoughts.”

It normally happens when we allow our thoughts to be consumed with trying to satisfy our own needs.  It's a tricky trap and when we take the bait, then we are tormented with thoughts of failure, unbelief, and distrust of anyone other than ourselves making it happen.  Jesus was very clear when he addressed worry.  He wanted us to really evaluate what worrying added to our lives.  The foundation of worry is a lack of trust.  It says to God, who has unwaveringly promised to take care of us, that we don’t believe He will.  If we are to overcome worry, we must take our eyes off of ourselves, and fixate them upon the one who promises to give us anything we need.

In Philippians 4:6-9, Paul is admonishing us as believers to “pray about all things and worry about no thing.”  Worry puts a noose around our neck and strangles our hope, peace, and our best life out of us. While prayer removes the noose, sets us on a solid rock of His peace and hope.  Take the time today to evaluate the seeds of worry you have sown, and let’s be honest, do we really like the harvest worry has given us?  I know I do not like any part of the worry harvest.  However, when I look back over the seeds of prayer I have sown, and the harvest that has come forth from it, I am satisfied. Now when I feel worry creeping up to take from me.  I quickly seek God through prayer, and surrender my praise to the God who promises to give me every thing I need.

No Worries Here,

Chanda Rose
