Living in His Presence

Dear Friends,

We were admonished at our Ladies Bible study on July 12th to study Psalm 27. Each morning since then, I have been up studying it or feeding on it as we say spiritually. Oh, my goodness!! You talk about being fed some good, good, good spiritual food, this is good food. Not that food you eat without nutritional value, but food that sustains life, that cause growth and development. In this chapter the Psalmist David, has been teaching me the importance of staying in God’s presence. No matter what he done, or what was going on around him. He had gotten the revelation that if I, could just get to God’s presence, everything around me has to change. So, on my study journey, I have been reading various bible version of Psalm 27. This morning I, read it from the message bible and wanted to share it with you all in this devotional.

Psalm 27 1:14 (Message Bible)

“1.Light, space, zest - that's God! So, with him on my side I'm fearless, afraid of no one and nothing.

2When vandal hordes ride down ready to eat me alive, Those bullies and toughs fall flat on their faces.

3When besieged, I'm calm as a baby. When all hell breaks loose, I'm collected and cool.

4 I'm asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I'll contemplate his beauty; I'll study at his feet.

5 That's the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic.

6 God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I'm headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I'm singing God-songs; I'm making music to God.

7 Listen, God, I'm calling at the top of my lungs: "Be good to me! Answer me!"

8 When my heart whispered, "Seek God," my whole being replied, "I'm seeking him!"

9 Don't hide from me now! You've always been right there for me; don't turn your back on me now. Don't throw me out, don't abandon me; you've always kept the door open.

10 My father and mother walked out and left me, but God took me in.

11 Point me down your highway, God; direct me along a well-lighted street; show my enemies whose side you're on.

12 Don't throw me to the dogs, those liars who are out to get me, filling the air with their threats.

13 I'm sure now I'll see God's goodness in the exuberant earth.

14 Stay with God! Take heart. Don't quit. I'll say it again: Stay with God.”

Brothers and Sisters….this not cliché’ we truly do serve an amazing God, that no foe can withstand. I love when it talks about him being besieged in vs. 2. “*Besieged means-to be surrounded. ” Yet, David declared that he was calm as a baby! And when all hell was breaking loose, he remained “*collected-recovered from surprise or dismay; firm, prepared” and “*cool-not ardent or zealous; not angry; not fond; indifferent.”

You might ask like me….Lord, how was David able to do this? How was he able to take this stance? He lead me to vs. 8, “When my heart whispered, “Seek God,” my whole being replied, “I’m seeking him.” The Holy Spirit our helper is always nudging us to come up higher, that isn't a lateral move in yourself that was a vertical move…stay vertical. David choose the vertical, and in return David found his confidence in God, to the point that even if his mother and father abandoned him, he knew that God would never abandon him. If we don’t learn anything else here, please know that every answer, every decision for life, every place of comfort, healing, deliverance, and whatever it is that we need, can be found when we get into God’s presence.

So, I admonish you as I, admonish myself to do what vs. 14 says, “Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again. Stay with God.
