Good Morning Ladies (and few gents),
Today’s devotion included below “The Gangrene of the Soul” is a reminder from GiG Mary that, “Greed is the gangrene of the soul and if not quickly dealt with, will contaminate every emotion, creating a foul stench in every part of life.”
GiG, this is an aptly timed message with the holidays just around the corner. And then I read something not long ago that made me go hmmmmm.
Have you noticed that most women carry all sorts of bags depending upon their season in life—purse, diaper bag, work satchel, beach bag, or other totes appropriate for the occasion while men go empty-handed? Think it over. We’ll stuff everything from snacks to sewing kit to toilet paper in our bag while men shove their wallet in their pocket and are good to go.
Maybe, for the first-time, you’re like me and wonder about this mystery?
GiG, we woman want to be prepared for any and every crisis that may arise, while most men figure they will find, make, or otherwise produce whatever they need should an emergency cross their path. We don’t seem to understand that what looks like neglect on their part is just the way it is, and rather spiritual mind you. OUCH! Yet, we on the other hand can plan every move we are going to make, but all the planning we do will not keep trouble away. Isn’t that what Proverbs teaches us.
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9 NLT
Yup, we can horde all the things on our persons, in our cars, and in our houses that we think will make a problem manageable, but they cannot dam up the flood of emotions that come with a crisis. I suspect someone at this very moment is thinking, yeah that’s right.
Only God knows what tomorrow brings, and only He knows the tools we will need to get through any given situation. No packet of tissue or pocketsize scissors is going to be more useful than a spirit that is calm and trusts in the Lord.
God’s Got It…so we can REST— He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. Socrates
May always we be encouraged to carry a peace-filled spirit with us, trust the Lord to guide us, and to provide for our needs along any path He will take us on. And may gluttony and greed not be falsely interpreted as preparation.
