A Sweet Aroma...

Dear Friend, Did you know that if you are exposed to a scent for an extended period of time, there’s a chance that eventually you will not be able to smell it? This phenomenon is a sensory adaptation called nose blindness or olfactory fatigue. It’s temporary, naturally occurring adaptation of your body that leads to an inability to detect or distinguish common scents in your surroundings. Your brain is basically saying, “Body we smell this all the time...there’s no need to focus on it! There’s no threat here let’s move on to something else!” So let’s say you have a particular perfume that you are wearing. And you wear it every day. There’s a chance that after a few hours you may think that scent has worn off. But in all actuality it still can be smelled by others. This is nose blindness. Now on another note this same event can occur in our spiritual lives. As believers our lives give off a scent that others can smell! In 2 Corinthians 2:15 it says, “Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.” We have to make a choice to stay in the Word and allow God to do the inner work on us! It’s not a fragrance we can fake...it’s comes deep from within each of us! It’s kind of like eating garlic. You can smell it rise out of someone’s mouth days after the meal is finished. We are no different spiritually! Whatever we have been eating on whether it’s like Christ or not begins to exude out of our lives and can be smelled by those around us. And this is true for both the good and bad! So keep pressing in the things of God! Keep eating the Word! If you have become nose blind to the stench of negative, fruitless things going on in your life; know that there’s a remedy! Check your diet and ask the Holy Spirit to heighten your senses to smell the world around with a fresh Kingdom perspective!
