Rightly Divide The Word!

Rightly Divide The Word by LaKisha M. Johnson

2 Timothy 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth”.

The Bible, I was given an acronym growing up, B (Basic), I (Instructions), B (Before), L (Leaving), E (Earth). Although quite quirky, I couldn’t understand what that meant for me. I didn’t understand the basic foundations to read and why I needed to read the bible. What was the purpose? I remember being in vacation bible school growing up, singing the B.I.B.L.E that’s the book for me. I am not sure I understood it all, but I understand it clearly now. It is the best “self-help” book that you can find. It comes with a great life coach, the Holy Spirit and if you ever want to spend time improving your life, all you need to do is spend time in the Word of God.

It has a solution for everything. It teaches you how to run your business, treat people, be successful in life, remain humble, deal with sickness, raise your children, be a wife, be a husband and be a good leader. It has a solution for everything you need, to walk out your purpose here on earth. John 4:23-24 says, “But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him. God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” The Word of God will bring us to all truths in Him. Here are some basic things that I use to understand the word, to rightly divide in truth so that I can live it out correctly. I think they will help you too.

  1. Find the best version of the bible to read for you, the KJV is what most of traditionally grew up with. Find a different version that works for you. (Proverbs 4:7)

  2. Establish a set time and stick to it, this important in developing effective habits. (Joshua 1:8)

  3. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you and to give you wisdom, God will supply it. (James 1:5)

  4. Use a dictionary, thesaurus and commentaries; they will help you navigate to the truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

  5. Ask questions and get help, don’t just leave your bible reading to your pastor or those around you, study for yourself. (2 Timothy 2:1)

  6. Go slow, it isn’t about how fast you go, take your time with it so that you can understand and build solid foundational blocks for successful living. (Ecclesiastes 9:11 and Matthew 24:13)

Prayer: Father thank you for giving us insight to the Word of God. Thank you for providing us with a manual for living, for giving us a way to have victory on this earth. Holy Spirit show us how to apply this to our life, so that we can live in victory. In Jesus Name. Amen
