The Manager of Your Home

The Manager of Your Home ….…. By LaKisha M. Johnson

Proverbs 31:13-15, “She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.”

“Welcome to Good Burger, Home of the Good Burger, may I take your order”? My older kids used to watch this show titled “All That”, and this was a constant in one of my shows. I remember one day, I was sitting up thinking. This is all that they think that I am “their” order taker. They and Germaine just want me to do whatever it takes to make them comfortable. This is not like Burger King, they don’t get to have it their way. They are going to share this responsibility too. Little did I know that my reasonable service was to them first.

One day I was lying in bed and my alarm went off, it was around 5:00 am in the morning. I looked over at Germaine, and said “Why did you set the alarm? He looked at me as if I was crazy, and said, “I don’t hear an alarm.” This went on for a couple of weeks. Finally, Germaine said to me, you just need to start getting out of bed, praying and asking God to speak to you, because there is something going on. So I started setting the alarm and getting out of bed early. Before this, I would just get up when the kids got up. The Lord began to show me through the Word, how important it was to be a good manager of my home. The wife of noble character was a good manager of her home. She understood the importance to rise early, to work without grumbling or complaining and that she was responsible for the “flow” of her home. That she was to serve her home first. I had to rearrange my standards to those set by God, the example had been given to me in the Word.

As women we are the managers of our homes, like in any management situation, the manager is there first, leaves last, puts out all the fires, makes sure everyone has what they needs, keeps the business stocks, oversees the finances and constantly prepares to do it all over again.

Prayer: Father provide us with the grace we need as women, to properly manage our homes. In Jesus Name. Amen
