Compassion Kills Pride

11/29/17

Dear Friend,

We are half way through the week! What a week it has been, after yesterday, I saw some areas in my life, in which my roots were exposed. I wasn't quite sure, how to deal with it, but God helped us today, compelling us to focus on compassion. Compassion, is the center of Christ. You can't be a Christian and lack compassion.

Luke 11:22-24, "“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate."

This is the ultimate demonstration of forgiveness, the way we are supposed to live. The father could have been prideful, rejected him and reminded him of everything he did wrong. However, he never asked a question. He never looked at him and called him by his sin. As a matter of fact he didn't even want to talk about it. He forgave him, loved him and restored him. That is the part that I love the most, that he restored him without asking any questions.

So I ask you, who are we to act any differently, who are we to remind a person of their sin, how they messed up, all the things we've done wrong, as a matter of fact who are we not to restore a person after they have asked for, forgiveness? Colossians 3:12-13 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Compassion is the root of Christ, and the end to any argument.
