Split personality...

Dear Friend,

The Apostle Paul said it best when he said, "Look I long to do right, but even when I want to do right I end up doing wrong." (see Romans 7:19). Paul understood the struggle between our spirit and our soul. If you don't know by now you are a tri-part being (spirit, soul and body) (see 1 Thessalonians 5:28), but where the conflict comes most is between your spirit and your soul. Your spirit is the divine part of you, the part of you directly linked to God. Your soul contains your will, your intellect, your experiences, your attitudes your personality. But what happens if the soul gets the wrong information? You operate with a split personality.

Often we operate in life with a split personality, seemingly right on one hand but so dysfunctional on the other hand. We make rash decisions and choices based on emotions and feelings that have nothing to do with our real truth (spiritual truth). Our spirit is where we are divinely connected to God, it is where are our heart is (see Psalms 139:13-14). It is the place that tells us do good, do what is right, do what is God. Our soul tells how to operate based on our hurt, our pain, our disappointments and our challenges. Our intellect is important to our purpose, it's needed but it was never meant to override our spirit man. Our spirit is our divine connection between us and God, it is the part of us that has to live by Faith and not by sight. So how do we differentiate between our spirit and our soul? What does the WORD say? Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life!" When I am faced with decisions, I always ask myself what does the "Word" say, Jesus is the Word, what does the Holy Spirit say?" Soulish decisions limit us from experiencing spiritual outcomes.
