Strategies for a Sound Mind!

Dear Friend,

Have you ever been where your mind has been all over the place? In Second Corinthians, Paul writes: 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Paul was writing to the church of Corinth, to remind them how important it was for them to captivate their “stinking thinking.” He clearly reminds them and us, that this isn’t a human war or natural war that we are fighting. The war that we are fighting is to have a mind (Ephesians 6:12) and a life that reflects Christ. In order to do this our thoughts must be the thoughts of Christ, we have to gird ourselves with truth (Ephesian 6:14) and present our bodies as a living sacrifice, so that we can be pleasing (Romans 12:1) and accepting and know the will of God, and this begins in our mind.

Have you ever had a day when your thoughts just seemed to overwhelm you, seemed like all your energy was expended in your mind? One minute you are fearful, the next minute you are worried and then all of sudden anxiety sets in. That is where the war is fought first, in your mind. The job of the enemy is to have you so overwhelmed, that you forget the promises of God for your life. Those people, who win in life, are those that learn to master their thinking and reside in the Word of their faith. There is a method to this, but you have to do it quickly so that it won’t ruin your day. Here are tips to what I do daily to manage my thoughts running over my mind.

  1. Slow down, everything doesn’t require an immediate response. (James 1:19)

  2. Catch that thought quickly and find out who or what it’s coming from? Is it pure, is lovely, is it of good report (Philippians 4:8). God does not give worried, anxious or fearful thoughts.

  3. Replace that thought with the scripture, what does the Word say about me or about my situation? (2 Corinthians 10:5)

  4. Call in someone else, I call them crisis partners, people strong in the Word, who can coach you through the moment and help you see the truth. (Proverbs 11:14, James 5:16 and Matthew 18:20)

  5. Pray and Repeat, don’t forget to the repeat the steps until you see that your mind is renewed. (Romans 12:2)

Captivating My Thoughts,
