His Good Thang!

Dear Friend,

I wrote this devotional last year, but it is so applicable to today's online devotional.

Proverbs 18:22 “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.”

I don’t think God decided to make Eve after, Adam was finished. I truly believe He (God) already had a design for Eve in His (God) head. All of the animals came coupled, to reproduce so He (God) was intentional with Eve too. God said, it wasn’t good for man to be alone (see Genesis 2:18), so He gave him Woman, to bring him help. The design of the helpmate is to fill in the gaps, to be the support to her husband. God uniquely designed us in His image, so man is the masculine side of him, while woman is the feminine side. Giving us both to each other so that we can complete each other (see Ephesians 5:21). In this we have to realize it is the task of the enemy is to disrupt families, to create an opposition in which there is no harmony or agreement. If everyone is out of position, then our families aren’t “whole”, then there are gaps in our communities and it effects kingdom advancement in this world. Our assignment has to be to get our families back. We all need to get in position and understand our roles. There is a biblical assignment for the man to his wife found in the following scriptures:

Colossians 3:19 - Husbands, love [your] wives, and be not bitter against them.

Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

1 Peter 3:7 - Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with [them] according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

  1. 5:22-33 - Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. (Read More...)

Ephesians 5:28 - So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

1 Timothy 5:8 - But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Ecclesiastes 9:9 - Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that [is] thy portion in [this] life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun

The ultimate goal is to love her as Christ loved the church; to provide for her, to protect her, to lead by example and to love her selfishly. Sometimes this isn’t easy; most of us deal with issues in our pasts, wrong belief systems and difficulty in our relationship with God. However if we desire to live out God’s plan for our lives then we have to find out our roles to the family, the relationship and what God desires of us. Ephesians 6:7 says, “Serve wholeheartedly as if you were serving the Lord not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do.” This includes in our marriages and relationships as well. There is a blessing in a man finding his good thing, the Godly one that God gave to him, and that is favor with the Lord. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t do it right the first time, God has a way of providing you a “do over”, an opportunity to find His favor again. Ask God to show you how to receive and walk with your “good thing” so that you can walk and receive His Favor.

Preparing for His Wife,

LMJ
