Heartbeat...

Dear Friend,

Did you know our heart rate is the speed of the heartbeat measured by the number of contractions (beats) of the heart per minute (bpm)? Whenever I go walking and I’m listening to music I try to songs with a high bpm. Subconsciously, our bodies are inclined to move in sync with the rhythm that is loudest in our ears. When the song is slow it tends to decrease my pace and I end up traveling way less than planned. It seems like no matter how hard I try to out walk the rate of the song I still move slow.

I compare this to the our relationship with God. He draws us so close that we literally should hear the cadence of His heart. And this sound should set the precedent for the rate at which we move in life. Think about a newborn baby. The child has spent 9 months listening to the sound the heartbeat. This sound is calming and relaxing. It creates an environment that reminds them that they are safe and protected. When we are close to Him and can hear His heartbeat it has the same effect on us!

No matter how fast life may try to rush us, we know if we stay in sync with Him we can’t go wrong. The key is for you draw near to Him and watch Him nearer to you. James 4:8

Today, take the time to spent quality time with God! Don’t allow yourself to be rushed by anything. Let your genuine desire and thirst for Him be the driving force draw you into His presence.

Drawing closer,

Jess
