Shhhh! I've Got a Secret!
Has anyone ever told you a secret? Like a really juicy one? The kind that’s gets you thinking about it all day. I mean you get to the place where you start telling everyone, without really telling everyone. You know what I’m talking about; you walk up to a friend and the conversation goes something like this. “Hey guess what?” “What” “I know a secret.” “What is it?” “Can’t tell you, hehe!” Or
“I know something that you don’t know.”
Secrets, the good kind, can be so empowering. As Christians we’re privy to some pretty juicy secrets. I’ve written about this privilege before; but this past weekend God reminded me of the treasures available for me.
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29
“Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3
"No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
The God of the universe desires me and has accepted me so much, that He has opened up His heart (his deepest secrets) to me. This weekend I was so overwhelmed by this concept. Completely and entirely overwhelmed by his love; for the simple fact that I’m not deserving of such pleasures. Yet, nonetheless, they are my (and yours if you accept it) truths to keep and cherish. These secrets allow us to indulge life in a way that can’t be explained. Paul reminds us in Philippians for it is the peace of God that transcends all understanding. Paul knew all too well about these secrets. It is why from a jail cell he was able to write the words, “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ,[d] who gives me strength.”
Friends our Father has given us complete access to His deepest secrets. Satan himself does not hold this power. In fact he reminded his disciples (which is who we also are), “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you “ Luke 10:19. How are you going to choose to live your life knowing what you know? Having access to what you have access to?
Satan will whisper in your ear. He will try and derail you in his anger and jealousy. Laugh in his face. Be reminded of the sweet secrets we know. Smile back in those moments, grin and showing all your teeth announce with pride, “I know something that you don’t know!”
