Being a good steward...

November 20, 2018

Dear Friend,

“Everybody wants to save the Earth; nobody wants to help Mom do the dishes.” P.J. O’Rourke

We all want the glamorous life but don’t want the work and mundane in between. We want to ignore the place we’re currently in, click our heels together, and magically appear in our dream life.

God calls us to be good stewards.

“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have...”

1 Timothy 5:8

“Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored.”

Proverbs 27:18

Be a good steward of what you have.

Taking care of what you have demonstrates discipline, gratitude, and maturity. Honoring what God has already given you will open spaces for more blessings. This goes for material things but also people and opportunities.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Colossians 3:23

In working for the Lord we have joy (do everything without complaining or arguing) and our work is done well. No you don’t live in that four bedroom house yet. But are you taking care of the two bedroom apartment you have now? Is it clean? Does it feel like a home? Or are you just sitting around complaining about how small and ugly it is and talking about how, “if I had a bigger place...” Dreaming is good but if you can’t properly take care of and have pride in what you already possess how can you be blessed with more? That two bedroom apartment is your practice run.

Think about how you might deal with your own child. If they came to you wanting a pet. Your response might be telling him/her that they needed to prove their responsibility. “If you can show your responsible with your chores and grades at school we can have a conversation about a pet.”

Being good stewards of our time, money, relationships, etc. reflects the position of our hearts and is one of the defining things that show our unity with God. Wisdom such as that can only come from Him.

Abundantly With Love,

Anonymous Wife
