Repeat after me: I am not a Multitasker!
Dear Friend, Confession Moment: In staff meetings I’ve been guilty of checking emails or grading papers during a meeting. All the while telling myself that I can listen (attentively), receive the information fully, and do what I want to do. Sad to say I was lying to myself...
Sometimes when we have more than one thing to do at the same time we tell ourselves we will simply multitask. Sorry to burst your bubble but technically we really can’t do it. Our brains were wired and created to only be able to do one task at at time! That’s why we tend to make mistakes when we have more than one thing going on. Many times we promise that we’re attentive but really the tasks aren’t being given the attention that they really need!
The Bible reminds us over and over again to remain focused and singled minded.
Proverbs 4:25-27, Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. Here we are told not look anywhere else but forward. Looking to the left and right will lead down the wrong path. Then, James 1:6-8, tells us that a double minded man is unstable in ALL his ways and cannot expect to receive anything from the Lord.
Matthew 6:33 We are told to keep our priorities straight! Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness...THEN all these things will be added to you! Instead we get distracted and fix our eyes on the things, and then add God when we feel like it! And unfortunately when we fail we have the innate tendency to say that God had something to do with it! Our focus must be fixed on The King and His Kingdom! No more wavering and distractions! We only take our eyes off of Him when we believe in our hearts that God isn’t able!
Prayer: God today I repent for not keeping my focus on you and the principles of the Word of God. I thank you for the grace to obey your Word and to make it the only and final authority in my life. Now let the my gaze be fixed on you. And may you and your Word have my undivided attention from this moment forward. Thank you for the Holy Spirit who walks and talks with me every step of the way! I love you Father! In Jesus’ name, AMEN! Eyes fixed on the King, Jess
