Doorstop!

Dear Friend,

When I was younger I used to think the doorstop was dumb. I couldn’t understand the purpose of them, especially the one with the springs on them. As a matter of fact, the only thing they seemed to be good for was making noise. I remember I used to sit and strum them like a guitar. Other than that, they “appeared” to have no purpose whatsoever.

Ha! That was until I had little boys, I have an admiration and appreciation for doorstoppers! Who would have thought that I would sing praises to Mr. Osburn Dorsey, a 19th century African American Inventor. I wanted to build a memorial to him behind every door in my house, especially every time a door was flung WIDE open by a little boy running from one of his brothers, they showed my doors, no mercy.

As I meditate I think about how significant certain scriptures that I learned in the word as a child would become my own doorstops and keep the holes out of my walls. Scriptures such as:

  1. Jesus Wept (John 11:35), taught me how compassionate Christ is for me, and how much He loves me, even when I thought no one else did.

  2. For God So loved the World He Gave (John 3:16), taught me the redemptive power of the blood and that I am loved, remembered and forgiven. I don’t have to suffer from my past mistakes. I am righteous.

  3. The Lord is My Shepherd (Psalms 23), which for some reason I taught myself as a kid, taught me that if I want to be successful, it’s important the Lord lead me and guide me.

  4. He who dwells in the secret place of the most high (Psalm 91), which my grandmother was insistent all her children and grand children know, taught me to stay under the protection of the MOST HIGH and any time I get outside of HIS covering, I am unprotected.

  5. Be anxious for nothing. (Philippians 4:6-7), which my Father would teach me so that I wouldn’t be full of concern over the world’s “Nothings”.

It all make sense, these foundations were built to prevent holes. So thank you Mr. Dorsey, for preventing the holes in my walls and thank you to my mom, grandmother and dad for preventing the holes in my life.

No More Holes in the Wall,

LMJ
