Timing is Everything by the Anonymous Wife

Dear Friends,

One of my best girlfriends and I are foodies. A large amount of our relationship is comprised of long conversations over a good plate of food. We venture to places we’ve never been trying foods both domestic and foreign; the more “hole in the wall” the place is, the better. It is on one of these such excursions that the Holy Spirit renewed my mind on patience.

We arrived at this new Vietnamese Bistro that we had been wanting to try for weeks. Our wait was not long as the food arrived soon after ordering. We sat chatting away and enjoying our meal. As we ate, I noticed a couple that was seated in our proximity. As I looked over i noticed that the young lady had gotten a salad; and well that just wasn’t right to me. (I’m working on being better at minding my own business, thank goodness for grace and a judgment free zone, Amen?!?) I turned over to my friend and let her know how much I wasn’t having it. “Who does that? Who comes to a authentic Vietnamese Bistro and orders salad?? Shameful!” My friend giggled at my foolishness and we continued to eat and catch up.

Several minutes later I glanced over to the same couple and quickly became embarrassed for how I chose to first react. The young lady now had in front of her a large bowl of ramen. Immediately I heard the Spirit imparting his wisdom. “Glorie, you were so quick to make an assessment of a situation and a person without knowing all of the information. You chose to be impatient. You looked at a situation for 2 minutes and decided you knew the whole story. How impatient of you.”

Friends so much of our relationship with God is learning to be patient.

“5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Psalm 27:14

31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40: 31

Timing is everything. Taking a cake out of the oven before the timer is up will produce a gooey alternative of something that should be pure bliss. Giving birth before your due date causes complications for both mother and child. Dropping out of school at an early age increases risk for incarceration among other things. Timing; it’s everything.

I want to be a person that waits. I want to be a person that chooses to be still despite being pressured to make a choice. I want to go when the Spirit leads but to also wait when the Spirit says to wait. His timing is not our timing. His ways are not our ways. Scripture reminds us to not lean on our own understanding but to trust in our Lord and that when we do, He WILL make our path straight.

I’ve been asking myself since that encounter, “What in your life are you rushing? What are you trying to solve or do on your own instead of waiting.”

Timing, God’s timing, is everything. Be patient my friends. Wait for the story to unfold. He is the greatest author of them all.

Abundantly With Love,

The Anonymous Wife
