Scars are Proof....
Dear Friends,
When I was younger I decided to do a back flip off of a deck and I busted my chin open. I still have that scar under my chin as evidence that I was wounded while attempting to do this amazing back flip. We know that scars are evidence of wounds. While my external scar on my chin is still visible to this day, what is not visible is the internal scars. That flip produced a wound of trust in myself, could I flip successfully without getting hurt?
We experience the same thing in life. Emotional injuries that turn to wounds and wounds that turned to scars especially after something expected happened. Perhaps, a wayward child. Addiction. A failed marriage. A betrayal of a close friend. Unfulfilled dreams. A promised unkept. Unspoken words from our mother or father. Unforgiveness. The abandonment of a parent. The death of a love one. Whatever the situation may be, they are reminders that we were wounded. It doesn’t matter if it happened today, or years ago the pain still lingers. Life has a way of triggering these internal scars, and reminding us that we are wounded.
Psalm 147:3 (amp) is a great reminder of a loving God who wants to stop the bleeding that wounds have caused. It says, “He heals the brokenhearted. And binds up their wounds (healing their pain and comforting their sorrow).
God’s desire is to transform the scars, into beauty marks. Isaiah 61:3, “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. God wants to take the scars from our life and heal them and make us whole! And instead of us seeing scars, we have beauty marks with purpose used to bless the world around us.
Here is a list of some symptoms that I found in a devotional that will help us identify if we are wounded.
You avoid specific places.
You avoid certain people.
You have made a silent inner vow.
You suffer from emotional triggers
You engage in addictive behaviors or have an unhealthy attachment.
You wound others.
You experienced ongoing, unresolved grief.
Your thought bully you.
You have a secret you have never told anyone.
You struggle to verbalize your hurt.
If we have any of the above warning signs, chances are we wounded.
Let’s Pray: Lord, we the children you love bring you our internal wounds that life whether by choice or force has bestowed upon us. We no longer want to walk around wounded, hiding our internal scars. We want to start our journey that will allow us to experience your wholeness in our lives. We surrender our brokenness to you. Holy Spirit show us layer by layer all the wounds we have hidden, or nurtured. So, that we can walk in the freedom and wholeness that you designed for us. We trust you as healer, and we thank you that you are filling the holes in our soul.
In Jesus Name…Be it Unto Us According to Your Word,
Chanda Rose
