No Compromise
Dear Friend, Recently my son Josiah had some tough decisions to make. I need to provide a little background story. Josiah is 14 years old. He is 6”1, weighs 216 lbs., and wears a size 15 shoe. When you meet him you will think he is much older, you would also assume he was built for basketball and other sports. He does participate in sports, but his loves are the Trombone and Art. He also loves the discus and shot put in track. Recently, he was asked to play on the football team. His friends kept putting pressure on him. He loves people and to be of help. Therefore he was slowly beginning to consider this. My problem is that I know that he does NOT like football and is not interested in playing. We particIpated all last year in offseason and got to the regular season and he quit. However, I knew this was not a decision that I needed to make for him. Yesterday he came into my room and said, “Mom I need to talk. Would God allow you to make your own decision about something?!?!” I replied, “Yes, we have free will...are you talking about football?” Then he said, “Yes ma’am, I don’t know what to decide!” I said, “Well let me give you this advice. Your motive is what I’m concerned about. Why do you want to do it? If you do it because you want to do it; I’m in full support. But, if you are doing this because of other people then they have become more important. More important than yourself, your purpose, and that makes that relationship an idol. And if you compromise in this it will be easy for you to compromise in something else. He made a deep sigh and said, “That’s what I was afraid of!” Later he decided that he wouldn’t play! Sometimes the best Yes is No! A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. Proverbs 25:28 No Compromise, LMJ
