Honor God, Honor People...

Dear Friends,

The word, “honor” is mentioned over 147 times in the bible. So, we know honor is very important to God, and it should likewise be just as important to us. I once heard someone say, “if you can’t honor the person, at least honor their position.” You can never honor what you don’t value. When you begin to value the people around you, honor will come easy.

Let’s look at the definitions for honor and value to get a better understanding of these two words.

Value-“the regard that something is held to deserve, the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.”

Honor- “high respect, great esteem.”

For example: If we only value our job as a paycheck, or if you only value a marriage as a piece of paper, that will become our level of honor towards it.

I now have a clearer understanding why it is important to give honor to whom honor is due. (Romans 13:7), because what you honor will reflect what is valuable to you. Then you just will not treat what you value any kind of way, because you have learned to honor it. Paul is letting us know in his letter to the Timothy how dishonor keeps up from being useful to the Kingdom.

2 Timothy 2:21 (Amp), “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable-disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for special purpose and use], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

While God offers us the most rewarding promise that honor could bring, and when God makes a declaration you can believe it to be so! I Samuel 2:30 (NIV)….. “But now the Lord declares. “Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained-(the feeling that someone or something is unworthy of one’s consideration or respect).

Prayer:

Holy Spirit help me to consider how valuable God and the people around me are, and may their value be reflected through how I honor them all the days of my life. Show me areas that I have not honored those around me and give me a heart of repentance. I boldly declare that I will be a person who gives and receives honor. In Jesus Name, Amen!

Honor Looks Good on You,

Chanda Rose
