Joys of Mother

Dear Friend,

One of the joys of being a Mommy is how life lessons continue to be revealed as I live life with my boys. Driving back from church this past Sunday one of my boys noted, out loud, that cars were passing us. "Mommy," he said, "you have to go faster the other cars are passing us." "I know son, but we aren't going the same way." I had slowed down in order to take the exit that was coming up tot the right of us. After taking the exit and as we furthered on home he continued to note that other cars were still passing us. "Mommy those cars are still going faster than us." He noted as a sports car zoomed by. "You're right honey, but our car is bigger and older so Mommy has to drive it differently in order to get us home safely." That seemed to finally ease his questions.

Is this not a reflection of so many of our own journeys? We're living life and then quickly get distracted by those around us who are living life differently or achieving "milestones" more quickly. If immature and unfocused we'll run into the mistake of competing. We'll race or rush into decisions or "lanes" not even meant to take us "home". We'll get into accidents trying to race ahead not realizing this pace was set for us for a reason; to keep us safe.

Let's take the example of Jonah. He desperately wanted for his assignment not to be his own. He tried to deviate from his journey.

1 "The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.

4 Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. 5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship." Jonah 1:1-5

Even Jesus was faced with a similar choice, the choice to follow his path or the choice to take another. He kneeled faced before the father in the garden begging this cup be taken from him.

"Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”

39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:36-39

Focus on your journey. Find yourself, center yourself, tap into yourself, and be okay with yourself and your journey. You will live your most authentic life doing and being you. Only unity with that which formed you, unity with that of the purist spirits, will guide you to who it is you truly are. Once you know it, stick to it.

I've declared this my gap year. Rather then jump into the next thing I'm taking things slow...mediating...breathing...allowing the spirit within me to lead me to my most authentic self. I'm getting back on the road knowing that my journey is the best journey.

Abundantly With Love,

The Anonymous Wife
