Loose Lips...Sink Ships...
Hey Friends,
There is an old American idiom that says, “Loose lips sinks ships.” WWW.Usingenglish.com says, ‘ To have loose lips means to have a big mouth, susceptible to talking about everything and everyone. Sinking ships refers to anything from small acquaintances to long and hearty relationships (with friends or a significant other). So when one says loose lips sink ships, one is basically saying if you can’t watch what comes out of your mouth you are going to end up hurting people, psychologically or emotionally.”
Have you ever been guilty of being that loose lip person, causing ships (relation-ships) to sink around you? Well, I have been guilty of this often over the course of my life. It wasn’t until these loose lips began sinking one to many relation-ships in my life. That I had to ask the Holy Spirit to help me in this area.
Proverbs 18:2 ESV. “ A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.”
Coming into the understanding of just how unimportant my opinion is/was, has caused me to be able to see just how foolish I had been with my mouth. Saying things like, “well, they asked me for my opinion”, or “I just tell it like it is” or “I can’t control what I might say when I am angry.” This was me just justifying my foolish talk. You have to call a spade and spade, not matter how it’s played.
Proverbs 29:11 AMP tells me, “A {self confident} fool utters all his anger, but a wise man holds it back and still it.”
No longer would I allow pride, me-myself-and I, to allow my mouthpiece to give the enemy the ammunition to sink relation-ships around me. Each day I am striving to be that person who conceals a matter, that doesn’t speak everything my mind, will, and emotions lead me to speak. My choice is to say less, use wisdom and listen to the Holy Spirit, and to repent quickly when I know I have allowed my flesh to lead me into to speaking anything that would cause the relationships around me hurt .
“Oh that you would keep silent, and it would be your wisdom.” Job 13:5 ESV
