The Main Character...

Dear Friend,

One day I was on the phone with one of my sisters (surrogates). She was having to gently correct (Ha!) my nieces about several different things. A few minutes later, I heard my sister say to one of my nieces "Come out of there, you aren't supposed to be doing what she (her sister) is doing, you need to be focused on what I assigned you to do!" My God, that will preach.

As I was sitting thinking of this, I was wondering how often do we get into someone else's story? We leave our book (our lives) and escape into someone else's hoping that it becomes one of our own. Perhaps because it seems more interesting, more productive or more exciting. My niece only wanted to do what her sister was doing, because it seemed more glorious. It seemed like it would yield a greater reward. She had her own assignment, one that was necessary for her in this season. However, she took her eyes off what was before her, to join in my nieces story, because she was distracted. My other niece seemed to be doing something more noteworthy, it was getting a response from my sister (some praise), that my other niece wasn't getting (yet)!

Imagine if Snow White and Cinderella would exchange places, what an interesting story that would make. Both have victorious endings, but different journeys. It's the exact same for us, God's plan for one, isn't necessarily the plan for the other. At any time we try to exchange our story (our lives for someone else's) it's almost as if we say to God, the books that you have written about me, aren't GOOD enough.

God is the author of our books (see Jeremiah 1:5 and Psalms 139:16). He never intended for us to live out someone else's story. Galatians 6:4-5 says, "Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others. Assume your own responsibility".

Each time I think over the entire bible, I realize how significant each person, large or small is to the OVERALL story! Today, I want to encourage you to embrace your role as the main character, in your book and if you will, God can and will get the Glory out of your life.
