Sit Still and Focus!

Dear Friend,

I have had moments in class where my students had an assignment to do individually. Instead or working , they feel the need to get up, ask thousands of off topic questions, find reasons to move about the room. The whole time I have to remind them to sit still, focus, and sometimes bring them back to my table to sit close to me. And then by the time the assignment is due, there work is still incomplete They hadn’t actually accomplished anything! Have you ever found yourself busy moving, and doing everything but not going anywhere? It is almost as if you are spinning your wheels. It may look right to others and maybe even yourself. But if you asked the Father, it’s not productive at all! I have struggled with this. I’ll think because I’m ‘doing’ something that it is what I need to do. But in reality what I was doing was gripped tightly by distractions and coupled with fear and worry! This is a sure recipe that will always lead us down a road of destruction! There’s nothing helpful about living this way!

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:38-42

Martha’s viewpoint ‘looked right’ for the occasion. If someone came in they probably would’ve agreed with her. But ultimately like Mary, God has always called us to be a position of peace, and rest. And this happens when we are at His feet and in His presence!

Today, let us make the decision to not be Martha’s. Ask the Holy Spirit to let you see yourself. Ask to Him to show the places where you’re worrying instead of worshipping. The Holy Spirit desires that His fruit manifest in every area of ours lives! Help us Father to focus on Him and not be moved by the busyness around us. Take your stance today!

Remaining at peace and in position,

Jess
