Worship the Lord ONLY...

Dear Friend,

Chew on my devotional by my friend D. Andrews...

Well, we’ve reached the end of my writing week. And I want to close out this week by sharing some truths worth repeating from Matthew 4:8-11.

8 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” 10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” 11 Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.

We’re being reminded that Jesus’ temptation was to take the world as a political ruler right then, without carrying out his plan to save the world from sin. Satan was trying to distort Jesus’ perspective by making him focus on worldly power and not on God’s plans. Sound familiar?

GiG, Satan is still up to his old tricks by offering us the world, by enticing us with materialism and power. Aw, but that’s fool’s gold. If we find ourselves craving something that the world offers, let’s follow Jesus example and quote scripture right back at him. “Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”

May we be encouraged to recognize that temptation most often is a combination of a real need and a possible doubt that create an inappropriate desire. Jesus demonstrates both the importance and effectiveness of knowing and applying Scripture to combat temptation.

God’s Got It… so we can know the TRUTH—The Devil knows our name but calls us by our sin. God knows our sin but calls us by our name. Ricardo Sanchez

Called to serve and encouraging others to thrive,
