A Risen Savior
PRAYER: For military families near and far whose loved ones gave all during their service.
Good Morning Ladies (and few gents),
A Thought for the Day: “No matter where I am going and what I am doing, I want to be still in my soul and fully present with God.” extracted from Just Be by Elisa Pulliam.
Today is Memorial Day, unofficially known as the start of summer. However, it is originally known as Decoration Day. Founded in 1866, following the Civil War, the towns people in Waterloo, NY held a ceremony on May 5, 1866 to honor local veterans who had fought in the Civil War. The townspeople closed their businesses and took to the streets for the first of many continuous, community-wide celebrations, So, in 1971, Congress and President Lyndon Johnson declared Waterloo, N.Y., the “birthplace” of Memorial Day—an official federal holiday commemorating the men and women who died while in military service of our country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. On Memorial Day we memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. May we never forget the sacrifices paid because freedom isn’t free.
The people of Waterloo, NY inspired devotion for the sacrifices their townspeople paid. But there’s One greater whom deserves our deepest devotion.
“We have never heard anyone speak like this!” the guards responded. John 7:46 NLT
Jesus inspired devotion. No, people didn’t just respect him. Many actually liked him. Think about it. They left everything behind—family, friends, property, and in many cases their way of life to follow Him. I’ve never forgotten how Max Lucado explained this, “Impulsive people like Peter, visionaries like Philip, passionate men like John, careful men like Thomas, methodical men like Matthew the tax collector. And then when the men had left Jesus in the grave, it was the women who came to honor him from homemaker to philanthropist.”
So, as we memorialize the brave men and women who laid down their lives for people they will never know. I ponder the question, what are we doing with our lives so that others may know the Savior of the World?
May we be encouraged to go, tell, share, memorialize our Risen Savior. Invest in men, women, boys and girls, young and old. Be likeable so others may come to know him, love him, trust him, and encourage others to taste and see…
God’s Got It… so we can receive His LOVE—Integrity is allowing God’s Word to permeate our heart. And honesty is living and sharing that truth with anyone who will sit still long enough to listen.
