Rest!

Dear Friends,

We all love rest right? Well, if you don’t quite love it, can you agree that we all essentially need it? Very good, I couldn’t agree with you more!!!

Rest- in the KJV Dictionary is defines as,:

1.Cessation of motion or action of any kind, and applicable to anybody or being, as rest from labor; rest from mental exertion; rest of body or mind.

2.Quiet; repose; a state free from motion or disturbance; a state of reconciliation to God.

3. A place of quiet; permanent habitation.

In my study for rest I found an article where it talked seven types of rest.

  1. Physical Rest

  2. Mental Rest

  3. Social Rest

  4. Creative Rest

  5. Emotional Rest

  6. Spiritual Rest

  7. And Sensory Rest

Then, I began to ponder, how is it possible to be able to experience all seven of these types of rest at once? Cause honestly, there are days physical rest is evident, but I am drained emotionally. Then, there are days that our emotions are at rest, but mentally there is no rest is sight. So, obviously I sought the Word of God for help . Guess what?? I found a promise from God to us called, “Sabbath-Rest.”

Hebrew 4:1-12 “Therefore, (when we see the word therefore, this is a place to seek and to ask what it’s there for ) since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.[a] 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,

6 Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, 7 God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. 9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[e] just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Come on people get this revelation of God’s holy word. If Joshua (if the marriage, if the children, if the relationship, if the career move, if the promotion, if the money in the bank, if the new car, if the new house) could have given you rest. God would have never spoken about another day. People of God there still remain a SABBATH-REST for God people. So what rest is God talking about here?

He is talking about the KINGDOM OF GOD!! Jesus is the Sabbath! When we choose a relationship with Jesus, we have just chosen Sabbath Rest. He has declared His Kingdom in the earth, and when we don’t choose to live Kingdom, we are living in disobedience (vs 11) and we forfeit our rest. If I want to experience the Sabbath Rest daily, then we must CHOOSE KINGDOM (the finished works of Jesus), and value our relationship with Him. Mark 2:27, “Then he said to them, “ The Sabbath was made for sake of people, and not people for the Sabbath.” What a loving God we have who values our relationship enough to gives us kingdom rest. Will you make decision to value the relationship enough to receive the promise of the Sabbath Rest? Will you choose today to no longer be disobey and forfeit that rest? I know you will. What a love, what a God!!

Lord, we thank you for the Sabbath, and we choose to obey it. Let your Kingdom come, and let you will be done. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Choosing Sabbath Rest,

Chanda Rose
