Did You Pick Out Your Clothes?
Dear Friends,
Can you ever remember a time in your life that you have left home without being fully clothed? If we chose to do that, we would be breaking the law. This could lead to charges of indecent exposure; which could result in incarceration, fines, being put on the sexual offender registry, community service, and more. So those, in their right man, for the most part go out properly covered. We make this choice daily, without a fuss of wearing them. Well, as believers and followers of Christ, God has mandated us to be clothed as well.
Colossians 3:12 (AMP),” So, as God’s own chosen people, who are holy [set apart, sanctified for His purpose] and well-beloved [by God Himself], put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience [which has the power to endure whatever injustice or unpleasantness comes, with good temper];
Let’s look at that in another translation.
Colossians 3:12 (Message), So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline.
Every day we get to wake up and pick out what we want to clothe ourselves in, but how often do we consider putting on what God has picked out for us? Do we ever pause to reflect on how amazing it is to have our wardrobe handpicked by the living God? If God, has taken the time to hand-pick it, then clearly He knows it’s what we need to wear. Can, I encourage us as believer to consider putting these (5) things on, and give greater thought to these over our natural clothing. If the body needs to be covered, the soul and spirit does too!
1.Compassion-A suffering with another; painful sympathy.
2.Kindness-Good will; benevolence; that temper or disposition which delights in contributing to the happiness of others.
3.Humility-In ethics, freedom from pride and arrogance; humbleness of mind; a modest estimate of one’s own worth.
4.Gentleness-softness of manners; mildness of temper; sweetness of disposition; meekness.
5.Patience-The suffering of afflictions, pain, toil, calamity, provocation or other evil, with a calm, unruffles temper; endurance without murmuring or fretfulness.
(Definitions from 1828 Webster Dictionary)
Come let’s reason together, if being clothed in the natural keeps us from the consequences of breaking the law. How much more then, will putting on the clothing God intended for us to wear, keep us from being spiritually charged? Today let’s make a choice while we are getting dressed physically, as well as spiritually; in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Choosing it helps us live out the Gospel of Christ in front of; our family who has hurt us, the prodigal sons and daughters, the co-worker and boss who has offended us, the worker in the driver thru with the bad attitude, the person who beat us to the parking space at Wal-Mart, the stranger who cut us off in traffic., and the person who doesn’t agree with our political choice.
Listen, and listen carefully………someone needs to see, taste, smell, feel, and know that we are clothed in the Righteous of God through Christ Jesus.
